On October 1st, the legal representatives for attorney Odila Castillo Bonilla released a strong rebuttal to the claims that were recently circulated by multiple newspapers in Panama.
The defense described these articles as intentional assaults, motivated by individual financial interests, aimed at tarnishing Castillo’s professional image and personal character.
Defense of Castillo asserts absence of justification and infringement of rights
Carlos Carrillo, a member of Castillo’s legal team, stated that the accusations are unfounded and aim to obstruct the careers of the young attorney and her partner. He emphasized that behind these attacks lie concealed economic interests seeking to profit from Castillo’s discrediting.
The defense pointed out that this is not the attorney’s first experience with media harassment. They referenced a comparable event from 2021, when a Panamanian outlet released false information about an alleged arrest of Castillo, which was later retracted.
Partial truths and violation of confidentiality
The legal team contended that both the current accusations and those from 2021 are based on “partial truths,” distorted to jeopardize the professional career of attorney Odila Castillo. Additionally, they claimed that the information revealed breaches confidentiality norms, as part of the inquiry stems from a previously settled family issue.
Confidential details, such as immigration activities and tax filings, were also revealed—information that the defense asserts was acquired through illegal means.
Unauthorized surveillance and continuing legal proceedings
The defense revealed that Castillo has been a victim of GPS tracking, representing a blatant breach of her privacy and an instance of illegal surveillance. Carrillo emphasized that his client’s essential rights, as protected by the Panamanian Constitution and relevant laws, have been violated.
